Japanese Club

Japanese Olympiad of Indiana

Every year since 2007 the Muncie Central Japan Club has competed in the Japanese Olympiad of Indiana, an academic games competition featuring questions on Japanese language and culture. Teams from high schools around the state gather every year in February or March to compete. Students at this event also get to attend cultural demonstrations. The 2014 competition at Indiana University featured a karate demonstration and folk music with drums and shakuhachi.

On the way to Bloomington for the 2014 Japanese Olympiad of Indiana, students shopped at One World Market, an authentic Japanese grocery store in Indianapolis.

Congratulations to the Japanese Olympiad Team of Andrew Klein, Jalen Green, and James Ong that took 4th place out of seventeen 3rd Year Japanese teams from around the state at the February 22, 2014 competition at Indiana University in Bloomington! They were one question from advancing to the championship round.

Copa Soccer Tournament

Every year students taking one of the five foreign languages offered at Muncie Central take place in the Copa Soccer Tournament. Japan tied for 3rd place with Spanish in the most recent competition in October, 2013.
